Tropical Storm Ondoy, known outside the Philippines as Typhoon Ketsana (Tagalog: Bagyong Ondoy) was the second-most devastating tropical cyclone of the 2009 Pacific typhoon season, causing ₱11,157,508,720.60 in damages to the Philippines and 665 fatalities.
In the aftermath of the storm, another typhoon, named Pepeng would lash the northern part of Luzon a week later.
It caused the worst flooding in Metro Manila, a feat that would not happen until Typhoon Ulysses in 2020.
Impacts on ABS-CBN[]
Ondoy caused the network to go into a special coverage on September 26, 2009, especially, XXX: Exklusibong, Explosibong, Exposé aired special episodes on the day of this typhoon and Typhoon Pepeng.
It also led to the postponement rebranding of DWRR-FM for a month, which was supposedly scheduled on 1 October 2009. With this, the said station went under the name "ABS-CBN 101.9 FM" before it officially relaunched as "Tambayan 101.9" - the final branding of 101.9 prior to 2013, where it unified with ABS-CBN Regional FM stations under the name/brand of "MOR".
The Buzz would hold a special coverage on the storm on September 27, 2009.
Retirement[]
Due to the massive damage the storms caused in the country, the name Ondoy was retired and replaced with Odette.
