Super Typhoon Carina (Tagalog: Bagyong Carina), known internationally as Typhoon Gaemi (Korean for ant) was a typhoon that affected East China, Taiwan and most of Luzon (albeit indirectly).
Although the storm was far away from the Philippines, it enhanced the southwest monsoon (Tagalog: Hanging Habagat) to a powerful state, causing heavy rainfall for a majority of Luzon, including Metro Manila, which flooded most parts of the region and made it compared to Tropical Storm Ondoy 15 years prior.
Impacts on ABS-CBN[]
Due to the heavy rains caused by the monsoon, It's Showtime cancelled it's live show for July 24, 2024 and aired a pre-recorded episode instead, with Angela Ken and Benj Pangilinan being the opening.
The floods would later enter the Pinoy Big Brother house during it's Gen11 season.
TV Patrol Express went into a special coverage of the storm, lasting roughly 5 hours online, before breaking in to the main TV Patrol newscast, and returning with an hour long special following the conclusion of the main newscast.
ANC and TeleRadyo Serbisyo (including it's radio counterpart DWPM Radyo 630) would go on special coverage on the typhoon and the monsoon enhanced by it.
